How to explain it to your child
Don't count marks one by one — bundle them into fives, then counting becomes a multiplication fact.
- Group marks into bundles of five instead of counting one by one. — IIIII IIIII III
- Count the full bundles and multiply by 5, then add the loose marks. — 2 bundles · 5 + 3 loose = 13
- To compare two lists, convert both to real numbers first, then subtract. — 13 − 9 = 4 more
Example: IIIII IIIII III is 2 full bundles of five and 3 loose marks: 2 · 5 + 3 = 13.
Every sheet has a QR code: if your child gets stuck, they scan it and get this explanation step by step — without giving the answer away.
