How to explain it to your child
Look at the digit just to the right of the place you round to: 5 or more rounds up.
- Find the place you round to. — 274 to the nearest hundred → the 2
- Look at the next digit to the right. — 7
- 5 or more → round up; less than 5 → round down. Round once, from the original number. — 274 → 300
Example: 274 → 300 (nearest hundred); 934 → 930 (nearest ten).
Every sheet has a QR code: if your child gets stuck, they scan it and get this explanation step by step — without giving the answer away.
