How to explain it to your child
Read the legend first, then count the icons — one icon rarely stands for exactly 1.
- Find the legend first and say out loud what one icon stands for. — "One icon = 3 children"
- Count the icons and multiply by the legend value. — 4 icons · 3 = 12 children
- To compare two rows, convert both to real numbers first, then subtract. — 5 icons − 3 icons = 2 icons, 2 · 3 = 6 more
Example: Legend: one icon = 3 children. 4 icons for "dogs" means 4 · 3 = 12 children.
Every sheet has a QR code: if your child gets stuck, they scan it and get this explanation step by step — without giving the answer away.
