How to explain it to your child
Every calculation can be checked with its inverse: plus with minus, times with divide — never by repeating the same operation.
- Take the result and one of the two starting values. — 24 + 18 = 42 → take 42 and 18
- Apply the inverse operation, not the same one again. — 42 − 18 = 24
- If the other starting value comes out, the calculation was right. — 24 matches — the calculation was correct
Example: 24 + 18 = 42. Check: 42 − 18 = 24 — matches, so 24 + 18 = 42 was correct.
Every sheet has a QR code: if your child gets stuck, they scan it and get this explanation step by step — without giving the answer away.
