How to explain it to your child
I = 1, V = 5, X = 10, L = 50, C = 100. Add from left to right — a smaller symbol before a bigger one is subtracted.
- Read the symbols from the left and add them. — XXXI = 10 + 10 + 10 + 1 = 31
- Smaller before bigger means subtract. — IV = 5 − 1 = 4; XIV = 10 + 4 = 14
Example: XXXIII = 33; XIV = 14.
Every sheet has a QR code: if your child gets stuck, they scan it and get this explanation step by step — without giving the answer away.
