How to explain it to your child
Don't just add a zero — every digit shifts one place left for ×10, one place right for ÷10. ×100 shifts two places, ×1000 shifts three.
- ×10: every digit moves one place to the left. — 23 × 10 → 230
- ×100 or ×1000: the same shift, just two or three places. — 23 × 100 → 2300
- ÷10 or ÷100: every digit shifts the same distance to the right. — 2300 ÷ 100 → 23
Example: 23 × 100 = 2300 — the 2 and 3 shift two places left, and the empty places become zeros.
Every sheet has a QR code: if your child gets stuck, they scan it and get this explanation step by step — without giving the answer away.
