How to explain it to your child
Tens minus tens, ones minus ones.
- Split both numbers into tens and ones. — 47 - 23 = (40 + 7) - (20 + 3)
- Subtract the tens. — 40 - 20 = 20
- Subtract the ones. — 7 - 3 = 4
- Put them together. — 20 + 4 = 24
Example: 47 - 23: 40-20=20; 7-3=4; makes 24.
Every sheet has a QR code: if your child gets stuck, they scan it and get this explanation step by step — without giving the answer away.
