How to explain it to your child
Start big, count backwards.
- Look at the bigger number. — 9
- Count backwards as many times as the small number says. — 9 - 3 → '8, 7, 6'
- Where you land is the answer.
Example: 9 - 3 — start at 9, count down: 8, 7, 6. Answer: 6.
